High speed internet access brought to moon

It seem that everyone and their grandmother has been waiting for high speed internet on the moon. Next time you visit the moon, you will be able to stream Netflix and HD cat videos on YouTube.

NASA and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) are bringing what was long overdue – high speed internet to the moon. Lasers are beamed 384,633km with the combination of 4 separate laser-equipped telescopes and a receiver satellite that orbits the moon.

The download speeds are close to that of a data center or a Google Fiber connection at 622 megabits per second. The 19.44 megabits per second upload speed isn’t nearly as impressive of the download speed, but these speeds are still twice the average global upload speed.
